Winter League Round 1 - A Team Report

Corsham were the hosts for the first round of this years winter league with guests Swindon Dolphins A and B, plus Marlborough Penguins.  In short, it was very good and I hope the swimmers all enjoyed it as much as I.  As a team, we were competitive across all age groups and enjoyed several fine overall wins.  No small achievement against the Dolphins A team.  Whilst the wins are very satisfying, I found the battling display from other races equally pleasing.

Corsham B Team in Winter League Final

In a repeat of the 2010 final, which WE WON (!),Corsham B travelled to Devizes to take on Melksham, Swindon & Westbury's A teams.  It was a highly competitive affair with all four teams taking a fair share of wins.  A friendly evening as well because despite the close rivalry, there is none of the unpleasantness which mars so many of today's sporting activities.

B Team Gala at Trowbridge

The third round of the Wiltshire Moonraker Winter League took the Corsham B Team to Trowbridge last night to face 5 other teams bidding for the times and points required to qualify for the various Winter League finals to be held on March 19th. We had a poor lane draw (outside lane in a 6-lane pool) but this was mitigated in two ways. Firstly we were next to Warminster who were the strongest team on the night, but perhaps more importantly because the rest of the team were based poolside next to our lane and so the support was deafening.

Winter League Round 2 Results

The results from Round 2 of the Winter League have arrived (see attachment) after the times across the County have been assessed and ranked. This shows that both the A and B Team have moved up the rankings so we are all set for Round 3 next Saturday to decide who competes in the finals.

The draw for Round 3 (also attached) has been slightly changed but our Teams are still competing at Corsham and Trowbridge as previously advertised.

B Team Victorious in Winter League Final!!!

Words cannot convey just how well Corsham's B team swam tonight, a fitting climax to a Winter league season which began last November at the Link Centre in Swindon. Tonight's final was against three "A" teams from Melksham, Swindon ASC & Westbury, to whom must go equal credit for turning this into one of the tightest galas the Club has been involved in for some years.  Click "Read more" for full story.

Corsham Centre Stage in Costume Drama!

Corsham B Round 1 Winter League. It’s always a relief not to have any late drop outs on gala day, particularly with all of the viruses going the rounds at present. And even the horrendous weather was not a deterrent to those hardy souls who make up Corsham’s B team. Having splashed up the motorway to the Link centre in Swindon, the team was ready to pick up the challenge once again, after a stunning series of performances in the Summer league. Opponents on the evening were the “A” teams from Swindon, Westbury and Wootton Bassett, plus Dolphins C and Trowbridge C. Not an easy task then, but that’s what the swimmers train for.

Corsham B - That's B for Brave!

A heavily depleted Corsham B team made the trip to Salisbury to battle against some of the County's A teams and despite finishing last on the night, came away with their heads held high and still smiling. They also stayed poolside to congratulate winners Durrington on their success, which goes to prove that even the smaller towns in Wiltshire can beat those with larger reputations.

Winter League 2

10th January 2009

Back in Trowbridge for the second time this year, CORSHAM A again put on another fine display, finishing 2nd on the night. Most pleasing was the consistency. Even though outright wins were scarce, there was a constant flow of 2nd and 3rd places across all the age groups.
