Moonraker Summer League 2005 - Division 2. 10th Sept

"Winter League round 1"

It was a good start to this years Winter League campaign with both teams performing strongly.

The 'B' team got on the bus to Tidworth, and after the usual late entrance of Stuart and Phil got down to the job in hand. Christian Noone was welcomed into the team on his first outing into league competition and gave his all. With Christian in the u/13 age group, Tom Walters and Leo Matcham also put in a spirited performances and James Brand put in a Boy of Gala performance. Nick Parks gets the trouper of the evening award swimming in just about every event he was eligible. On the girls side, Nick did not actually swim. Here the ladies stepped in with the Open girls team of Charlotte Evans, Hannah Barkley, Michelle lewis and Dawn McCabe leading by example. Here also, Vicky Burt swan up contributing the 2 fine event wins. Becky Whiteside earned herself a mention with strong performances throughout the evening, as does the Girl of the Gala Hannah Mortimer.

Final on the evening result: Trowbridge 'B' 154; Tigersharks 'C' 90; Corsham 'B' 83; Marlborough 'B' 51.

First congratulations for the 'A' Team go to all the Parents who managed to get everyone to Salisbury on time through the evening fog, and second to Corsham ASC itself who contributed 5 officials for the evening (where would they be without us?). The boys and girls swam well too. Very pleasing was the fact that there were no disqualifications, though Alex (Jones) demonstrated an interesting interpretation of the Breaststroke start (breaststroke, butterfly, they both begin with 'B'). Settling into 4th place for most of the evening, a teriffic burst of 4 wins in a row towards the end gave Corsham a well deserved 3rd place on the night. Superior staminer perhaps. There really were good performances throughout, so it's hard to pick out individuals, though Mike Edmonson and Sarah Wilson certainly lead from the front anchoring several good finishes. Everybody gave their all with many swimming up an agegroup and doing the team proud. Also very pleasing was the encouragement everyone was giving each other, and the fun in the team.

Final on the evening result: Marlborough 'A' 212; Salisbury 198; Corsham 'A' 191; Wroughton 176; Melksham 137; Swindon Dolphins 'C' 91; Swindon ASC 88
