Sprints Cancelled Due to Bad Weather

Unfortunately due to the snow fall on Saturday afternoon and evening and the predicted freeze on Sunday, Wilts ASA took the decision to cancel the 2012 County Sprints on grounds of safety. This was made in a timely manner and communicated to the clubs/swimmers. Though it is disappointing for our swimmers who were ready to go, it should be remembered that safety of everyone is paramount. Travelling in from Corsham may have been possible but I would have been reluctant to cross Salisbury Plain if I was coming from one of the clubs in the south of the county.

Further communications from the County regarding the Sprints will be sent out as soon as they are received.

Excellent results from County Long Distance event

Corsham swimmers were in great form in the County Long Distance events at Bath University last weekend and together returned an excellent set of results. First up was Libby Harris who swam strongly to record a superb PB in the 800m Freestyle, coming a very creditable 6th in her age group. She was soon followed by Kerry Milton who swam a gutsy race to take Bronze in her age group, which placed her 5th in the Junior & 7th in the Senior Championships. Not to be outdone, Megan Trollope recorded another PB as she won Gold in her age group, taking 8th in the Senior Championships in the process. Last, but by no means least, Charlotte Stubbs was in unstoppable form, as she stormed to Gold in her age group and 1st place in both the Junior & Senior Championships.

Keeping the male flag flying for the club was Stuart Gibbs, who swam the 1500m Freestyle. Despite a brave swim Stuart had to be content with a Silver medal, as he finished an agonising 0.02secs off winning the Open age group category. Still at least he now has time to grow longer fingernails in preparation for next year!

Well done to all, hopefully these results will set the pattern for the rest of the County events this year!

Wiltshire County Long Distance 2012

The Wiltshire County Championships kick off this Sunday 29th January with the long distance races being held at Bath University. Megan Trollope, Libby Harris, Kerry Milton & Charlotte Stubbs will be competing in the 800m Freestyle and Stuart Gibbs will be aiming to show the youngsters that age is no barrier to a competitive and hard working swimmer in the 1500m Freestyle! We all wish them good luck in the competition.

County Championship Information

It is the time of year when we begin looking at who may have achieved qualifying times for the 2012 Wiltshire County Championships, so I thought that it might be worth providing a brief overview of the Championships for those who might be unfamiliar with the format.

Firstly there are 4 sets of events as follows:

Corsham swimmers in action at Regional SC Championships

Congratulations to Melissa Birkett, Charlotte Stubbs & Jonathan Brend who were in action at the South West Regional Short Course Championships over the weekend. Competition was fierce, but all 3 swam well, Mel's best swim was a 20th place in the Senior Championship for the 100m Fly, Charlotte's was a 6th place in the Junior Championship for the 400m IM and Jonathan's an 8th place in the Junior Championship for the 200m Breaststroke.

Club Records updated

An excellent set of events from the Club Championships resulted in a number of Championship and Club Records. So I've uploaded the latest club record spreadsheet under the Club Members area.

Aquae Sulis Grand Prix

The Aquae Sulis Grand Prix Open Meet is taking place at Bath University on 19th/20th November. This is a L1 open and hence is suitable for anyone who is aiming for regional qualifying times. Anyone who is interested in entering please let Graham Brend know by Oct 24th at the latest.

Club Records Updated

A number of new records were set during the Sprints, South West Regional championships and various meets since March. So I've uploaded the latest club record spreadsheet under the Club Members area.

Regional Age Group Roundup

The ASA South West Regional Age Group Championships concluded at Millfield on Sunday and a trio of Corsham swimmers were in action throughout the various sessions.  Despite making their Regional Age Group debuts and swimming against National Finalists,  all three competed hard and acquitted themselves well.

South West Regional Youth Championships

Corsham swimmers were in action in the ASA South West Regional Youth championships at Millfield last weekend.
