Wilts Open Water - just a 1500 this time

By swimstu73 - Posted on 22 July 2010

On Wednesday 14th July, Wilts ASA held their annual 1500m open water race.  It has proved more popular every year and this year saw some 120+ entrants.

Conditions were not as good as the week before with the winds making the long back straight a little choppy and the setting sun making it difficult to 'sight' the markers.

Shula Scotford took part in the 750m race (for 11 year olds) and did herself proud in her first effort at open water racing.

In the Masters, Paul Bacon continued his excellent run of results in the Over 40s by winning gold - that's 4 golds in the 4 races over the last two years.  Sean Browne narrowly missed out on a medal in the same age group, despite knocking 'chunks' off his time from last year.  Stuart Gibbs took silver in the under 40s.

Full results can be found on the Wilts ASA website.

Hi I enjoyed swimming in the lake because the weed tickled my hands and arms and legs it was a bit of a funny feeeling. I had to keep swimming to stop myself getting cold. Some swans swam up to say hello which was a bit scary. It was fun, I didn't come last and some people didn't manage to finish.

Shula

Well done Shula, I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
