Corsham “B”attle at Trowbridge
The third round of this year’s Summer league was held at Trowbridge, against the “usual suspects” namely hosts Melksham, Swindon Dolphins and league leaders Wroughton. And yes, it really was a battle this time, with the team never quite reaching the heights it had in the first two rounds. Wins were hard to come by, although there were some notable swims and lots of effort from newcomers Hannah Falipe, Safiya Mahmood and James McGettigan.... <more>
Making a welcome return from University was Matt Evans, who clinched a win in the open 100 breaststroke. Duncan Wilson was another winner in the under 16 backstroke, with Alex Johnson matching this in the under 16 breaststroke. Jake Lang was triumphant in the U12 breaststroke. Best team on the night was undoubtedly the boys under 16s who won both of their relay events and who comprised the aforementioned Duncan & Alex, plus Rhys James & Joe Ross.
Whilst the girls were always close, there was not a win on the night. However, this does not detract from the 2nd place performances of Heather Knight in the 100 open ‘fly, Olivia Hobden in the under 16 ‘fly, Hannah Lias in the under 14 ‘fly and the girls open freestyle relay, who as well as Heather & Olivia, were joined by the two Emmas, namely Boyd & Mortimer.
4th overall on the night was probably a fair result, although only 9 nine points separated us from Melksham. The team is more than capable of overturning this in the final round at Corsham in September. Thanks to poolside helpers Fiona, Henrietta, Penny & Rob, who helped to keep me “sane” on the night. Big thanks, once again, to Russell, who has the unenviable task of collating all three teams, a job which he does commendable patience and good grace.
Swimmers of the Gala were awarded to…………..? You’ll have to wait and see.
