2010 Wiltshire Championships

Corsham swimmers went into action last weekend in the first set of events of the 2010 Wiltshire Championships. First up was Megan Trollope, Corsham’s sole female entry in the girl’s 800m Freestyle at Bath University. Despite the event being held in a long course pool Megan swam excellently to knock a large chunk off her PB and finish fifth in her age group. Then on Sunday a small but enthusiastic bunch of swimmers competed in the County Sprints at Milton Road in Swindon. For the boys, Oscar Warren-Fisher notched up a top 5 finish in both backstroke & butterfly. An excellent return from his first county event. Jonathan Brend also claimed a fifth place in butterfly & Matt Harris was agonisingly close to the top 3, finishing fourth in both backstroke & freestyle. For the girls, Nesta Unwin fought hard in all 3 of her events with the highlight being a sixth place finish in the backstroke. Izzy Ledbury also swimming in her first ever county event overcame nerves to put in a good performance in the fly. Whilst Libby Harris swam an excellent butterfly to claim third place after finishing fifth in the freestyle earlier in the day. However not to be outdone by her children, mum Nikki was the star of the day, as she won Gold in the over 19yr old freestyle event and then went onto claim Bronze in the Championship final, narrowly missing out on the silver by a mere 1 hundredth of a second.
