Come on in - the water's lovely
Open Water swimming might not be top of everyone's list of things to do, but with the 10km event becoming an established fixture on the Olympic and World calender and the growing popularity of the Great Swim series, perhaps it's something that all competitive pool swimmers should try (at least once!)
Wilts County host two events over the summer months at Lake 32 in the Cotswold Water Park:
- 3km on Wednesday 7th July 2010
- 1.5km (or 750m for 11 year olds) on Wednesday 14th July.
Over the last couple of years, Corsham has been well respresented in the Masters events (with medals being won) and one younger swimmer each year. It would be nice to increase those numbers this year.
Perhaps you might be nervous about taking the plunge into the unknown, so Wilts County intend to run some taster sessions on Wednesdays during June (2nd, 9th 16th and 23rd) from 7 to 8 pm. This is an ideal opportunity to acclimatise to open water swimming - the drop in temperature, not having lane ropes and pool markings to guide you, the odd fish swimming past...
Some of the older swimmers (including me) have been in the lake already (it's a great way to start the day), so if you have any questions please ask. Otherwise, I hope to see you at the lake for the taster sessions or the races.
See the attached files or have a look at the Wilts ASA website.
