What is a Club Sprint?

By Mike Lang - Posted on 22 May 2009

The Club Sprints are a great opportunity for swimmers to achieve personal best times in a friendly competitive atmosphere.

What are Sprints?
The Sprints are a Club competition made up of 50m (2 lengths) timed races for each of the four strokes (the fly for under 10’s is only 25m (1 length)).

Who are they for?
Junior and Senior squad members. All swimmers are encouraged to enter.

When?
They usually take place in June or July during two of our club sessions. This year they are on Friday 12th June from 8:00pm – 9:30pm and Sunday 14th June from 6:00pm – 7:30pm. Please arrive 15 minutes early to register before each session.

How is the competition organised?
The age groups are:- under 10, under 12, under 14, under 16 and Open. Age is as of the date of the second session ie. 14th June 2009.

For each stroke swimmers compete against others of a similar speed. Heats may therefore have swimmers from different age groups. There are no finals. Medals are awarded to the fastest three swimmers in each stroke/age group.

How do I enter?
Forms are available on the website or at club sessions. Forms together with payment should be handed to the club desk or club official as soon as possible. The cost is £3-00 per night per swimmer whether one or two events are entered.

And finally....
There will be a Club social evening shortly after the Sprints. This is a good opportunity for all Club members and their families to get together whether they have taken part in the Sprints or not. Medals will be awarded during the evening. This year it will be a BBQ and Disco on Friday 10th July. Please come along and get to know other members of the club.
