C Team Excel at Tidworth (from Alan Hall)
Many congratulations to the small band of Corsham swimmers who swam so well at Tidworth last night. With the late withdrawal of Tigersharks, Corsham's sole opponents were Pewsey & Tidworth (complete with "blow up" Killer Whale), who competed gamely but had to give best to the visitors on the night.
Due to the lack of swimmers, those that did take part found themselves competing in many more races than normal, swimming up age categories and in some instances, swimming two races in succession. However, whilst this may be the Club's "junior" team, what it lacked in numbers it made up in spirit and sheer ability. The evening got off to a great start with three straight wins for Andy Chapman (100 IM), Katie Hall (100IM) and Oscar Warren Fisher (25 fly). And that set the tone for the rest of the evening, with a total of 30 wins out of 50 races. Despite their protestations before the race, both Elizabeth Renahan (50BC) and Colette King (50fly), won their events, and then went on to support their team mates in the relays. Newcomers Evie Stringer, Hannah Trollope, Harry Berning & Luke Cotton competed really well, as did Maria King and Ella Scott Humphris, providing fantastic support in the relays. The under 14 boys did really well, winning virtually all of their events. So well done to Jake Feirn, Joe Rowland, Oliver Warren Fisher and the rapidly improving Rhys James. Special mentions go to Kirsty Stanley for swimming so many races, in both the U14s and U12, and to George Matcham, a late entry but who made so much of a difference.
The Open swimmers won every race in their category on the programme! I have never seen this done before, not even by the A team. So very well done to Emma Connor, Andy Chapman, Richard Rowland, Steve Worthy and last, but by no means least Katie Hall, who entered probably the three toughest events (100fly, 100IM and 100BR) and won them all. And finally, very well done, and congratulations for his wins, to Elliott Berning, who found himself supporting the Open swimmers and doing so well. And that's it. A mere twenty swimmers took part, but proved that it's not quantity which counts but quality.
Well done and thanks to the relatively new team of helpers who supported the event, Donna Feirn, Penny James, Sarah Lewis (in her first role as overall team manager & suffering from a bad cold) and finally "Mr Cool" himself, Russell Warren Fisher, who worked tirelessly to pull a team together, despite the many frustrations of those who were unable to swim. You were all brilliant on the night and were rightly rewarded for your efforts.
