Summer League Round 3
CORSHAM B GAIN CONTROL (By Alan Hall). Another excellent gala at home saw Corsham B finally “win” a Summer league gala, albeit in a tie with Durrington. An improving Marlborough B took third spot, whilst league leaders Swindon had to be content with 4th on the night. It was a while before Corsham got into their stride and the lead was not realised until after 30 races. From that point onwards, however, the team stepped up a gear and whilst they eventually tied, they did recover all of the ground lost to Swindon in the earlier rounds. Some enforced personnel changes were made following the very successful round 2 at Marlborough, but this did not prevent the team from putting on another fighting display, none more so than the Open Boys, who won every individual race apart from one and all of their relays. The Open girls were not quite so successful, but well done to Charlotte Parker for swimming up an age group and coming second in the 100 metres ‘fly and a big thank you to Lyndsey McRae for coming back to competition and winning the 100 metres breaststroke. Not quite such a long report this time and whilst all of the swimmers did really well, mention will only be made of the winners. Here goes: Steve Worthy 100 metres backstroke, Ebony Trudgeon 50 metres freestyle, Mike Edmundson (won by nearly a length) 100 metres ‘fly, Freddie Sheratt 50 ’fly, Richard Worthy 100 metres breaststroke, Jonathon Brend (excellent gutsy swim) 50 metres ‘fly, Mike Edmundson (storming time of 57.67!) 100 metres freestyle, Hannah Pinsent (another very consistent performance) 50 metres breaststroke. Well done to all of these swimmers. Oh why not mention them all, because they did so well. Congratulations and well done to Matthew North, Izzy Ledbury (well earned 2nd place), Ollie Sheratt, Stephanie McPherson, Sam Ross, Hannah Lias (just warming up the 1500 Open Water swim!), Bridie Meikelreid (100 metres backstroke, why me? – cos you’re good, that’s why) Richard Meikelreid, Jake Lang, George Matcham, Matthew Williams, Nesta Unwin, Schula Scotford, Ella Golledge, Huw Parks (who just missed out on an outright win in the 50 metres backstroke), Callum Tinnion, Olivia Hobden (quietly getting on with the job so effectively), Joe Ross, Bobbi Lang and last, but by no means least, Alex Moore (another swimmer improving all the time). “Swimmer of the Gala” medals were awarded to Charlotte Parker and Richard Worthy. The final points totals were Corsham 132, Durrington 132, Marlborough 128 and Swindon 108. This means that Corsham B now top Division 5 by a mere eight points from Durrington and 12 from Swindon. Expect a really hard fought final round at Durrington on 12th September, which any of the top three have a chance of winning.
