Summer League Round 2
CORSHAM B FIGHT BACK (By Alan Hall). “In a thrilling finish, Corsham’s B team recovered some of the ground lost in Round 1 of this years Wilts ASA Moonraker Summer league, with a hard earned 2nd place, coming in a mere three points behind Swindon, but some way in front of Durrington & Marlborough B. And this result might have been better, had we not had to declare an over age swimmer for the under 12 boys team. The evening started well with a 2nd and first place in the Open IM events, swum by Richard Worthy and Emily Hall respectively. In fact, all of the teams Open swimmers swam well on the night, with wins for Michael Edmundson (100 free), Richard Worthy (100 back) and Heather Knight, who outshone the opposition and recorded a personal best for the 100 ‘fly. They were supported strongly by Freddie and Ollie Sheratt, Emma Boyd and Hannah Mortimer, the latter two playing a crucial part in the winning relay team. Moving to the very youngest age group, the lack of experience certainly did not hamper Ella Golledge, Izzy Ledbury, Schula Scotford & Nesta Unwin, who all swum their hearts out and seemed to thoroughly enjoy the evening. Not to be outdone, the youngest boys, Charles Brown, Will Matthews, George Matcham & Callum Phoebe, recorded excellent results, despite their relative lack of experience. In the U14 category, there were wins for Ebony Trudgeon and Jonathan Brend in the 50 metre backstroke and ‘fly respectively. And they were backed up by strong swims from the rest of the age group, namely Alex Moore, Hannah Lias, Olivia Hobden and Joe Rowland, who improved his front crawl 50 metre time by over two seconds. For the under 16s, both Hannah Pinsent and Huw Parkes won their individual races, namely the 50 metre breaststroke and ‘fly. They also helped the relay teams to victory. Last, but by no means least, both Stephanie McPherson (improving all of the time) and Charlotte Parker (“let’s give them a start, so I have something to chase!”) provided excellent support and secured much needed points on the evening. And so it was with some relief that we came second on the night, moving up a place to second in the Division and being in position to challenge Swindon ASC for the title. “Swimmers of the Gala” medals were awarded to Ebony Trudgeon and Joe Rowland. Well done to both of them. And many thanks to the mums and dads who turned out to support and provide assistance with team management on the night.
