Corsham B - That's B for Brave!
A heavily depleted Corsham B team made the trip to Salisbury to battle against some of the County's A teams and despite finishing last on the night, came away with their heads held high and still smiling. They also stayed poolside to congratulate winners Durrington on their success, which goes to prove that even the smaller towns in Wiltshire can beat those with larger reputations.
Up until two hours before the gala, team managers Claire & Alan were still making last minute changes to the final running order, which again was amended when we arrived at the pool. So with many regular team mates absent, those left found themselves having to swim up, in some cases two age groups, swim several races on succession and generally work much harder than would be the norm. And to be honest, I think the team responded well to the challenge and were only just denied a couple of outright victories, which would have been the icing on the cake.
Congratulations to Bobbi Lang for swimming her first gala for the Club. She did really well and will undoubtedly be considered for future meets. Well done also to Leo Matcham, who at one point, swam three races on the trot, Callum Tinnion, who I have lost count how many times he swum and to elder stateslady Heather Knight, who so nearly gained an overall win for the team. Sisters Sarah & Emma Boyd carried on their friendly rivalry for times and I believe that Sarah may well have pinched back some points from Emma.
Good to see Joe Rowland & Oscar Warren Fisher back in the team, both of whom made splendid contributions. Also impressing on the night were Ollie Little and Olivia Hobden, who gave their utmost. Overall all, however, this was a splendid team performance, played out with spirit, courage, fortitude and a great sense of humour.
Thanks to Amanda, Kate, Graham & Amanda for their support on the night, without whom, I would have had to get someone else (smirk). Seriously, well done.
