Winter League 2

10th January 2009

Back in Trowbridge for the second time this year, CORSHAM A again put on another fine display, finishing 2nd on the night. Most pleasing was the consistency. Even though outright wins were scarce, there was a constant flow of 2nd and 3rd places across all the age groups.

Some younger girls swimmers deserve a mention. Libby Harris and Hannah Lias, who were making their A team debuts, and they stepped up admirably. The u/15 boys continue to be a force as well as complementing the u/17 squad

The deserving swimmers of the evening were both from the younger age group, Lauren Jones and Dominic Meiklereid, who were both outstanding. It was also good to see Matt Cruse making an appearance, home from his studies, as were Stephen Worthy and Sarah Wilson. Well done to all.

"CORSHAM B COME 3RD "IN STYLE"

Hosting the second round Winter League at home, Corsham came up against strong opposition in the form of the rapidly improving Durrington and Tigersharks B. And yes, it was a tough gala, but the team responded with their usual spirit and humour, and along the way they collected four hard fought wins. With apologies to the Corsham swimmers who may not be mentioned, but this in no way detracts from any of your performances on the night.

Starting with the youngest ladies, we were only able to field the bare minimum of four, so well done to Charlotte Hildreth, Alex Moore, Elizabeth Renahan and Ebony Trudgeon for undertaking every single race in their age group. For the youngest boys, there were some excellent swims from Jesse Bacon, Joel Culver, Joe Rowland and Oliver Warren Fisher. In the under 15 girls, Hannah Pinsent was outstanding, bringing the team back into contention on several occasions. Also swimming really well was Stephanie McPherson. For the same age category in the boys, credit goes to Oliver Little and Joe Ross, who really strived hard on every single length.

Moving on to the older swimmers, they were probably the stars of the show and instrumental in the four wins. So well done to Emma Boyd, Katie Hall and Becky Whiteside. It was difficult to split the U17 boys for praise, so we won't. Well done to Zac Green, Oscar Matcham (and for the humour on the night) , Michael Riches and Callum Tinnion. Our older swimmers included some from the Masters section, marshalled and led by Stuart Gibbs, with excellent support from Heather Knight, Matt Evans and Ben Leverett Jacques.

I know some have been missed, but you all played your part in a hard fought gala. It would not surprise me if there were not quite a lot of personal bests. Well done everyone and a big thanks to all of the mums and dads who played their part poolside, and behind the scenes.
