Sprints Cancelled Due to Bad Weather

Unfortunately due to the snow fall on Saturday afternoon and evening and the predicted freeze on Sunday, Wilts ASA took the decision to cancel the 2012 County Sprints on grounds of safety. This was made in a timely manner and communicated to the clubs/swimmers. Though it is disappointing for our swimmers who were ready to go, it should be remembered that safety of everyone is paramount. Travelling in from Corsham may have been possible but I would have been reluctant to cross Salisbury Plain if I was coming from one of the clubs in the south of the county.

Further communications from the County regarding the Sprints will be sent out as soon as they are received.

Excellent results from County Long Distance event

Corsham swimmers were in great form in the County Long Distance events at Bath University last weekend and together returned an excellent set of results. First up was Libby Harris who swam strongly to record a superb PB in the 800m Freestyle, coming a very creditable 6th in her age group. She was soon followed by Kerry Milton who swam a gutsy race to take Bronze in her age group, which placed her 5th in the Junior & 7th in the Senior Championships. Not to be outdone, Megan Trollope recorded another PB as she won Gold in her age group, taking 8th in the Senior Championships in the process. Last, but by no means least, Charlotte Stubbs was in unstoppable form, as she stormed to Gold in her age group and 1st place in both the Junior & Senior Championships.

Keeping the male flag flying for the club was Stuart Gibbs, who swam the 1500m Freestyle. Despite a brave swim Stuart had to be content with a Silver medal, as he finished an agonising 0.02secs off winning the Open age group category. Still at least he now has time to grow longer fingernails in preparation for next year!

Well done to all, hopefully these results will set the pattern for the rest of the County events this year!

Wiltshire County Long Distance 2012

The Wiltshire County Championships kick off this Sunday 29th January with the long distance races being held at Bath University. Megan Trollope, Libby Harris, Kerry Milton & Charlotte Stubbs will be competing in the 800m Freestyle and Stuart Gibbs will be aiming to show the youngsters that age is no barrier to a competitive and hard working swimmer in the 1500m Freestyle! We all wish them good luck in the competition.

Easter Training Course - Pewsey 2012

Each year at Easter the Wiltshire County ASA run a 5-day taining course taking swimmers from across the county. This is an excellent training environment run by top coaches and provides sessions in the pool, theory, gym work and outdoor activities. The deadline for completed forms with payment is February 20th

This has proven very popular with our swimmers, many of whom return year after year as there is great camaraderie and they learn and develop as well as making new friends from other clubs who they then meet at Galas.
