News Bulletins 2005

18th Nov '05 "Winter League, Round 1 "

Saturday evening saw the start of this years Moonraker Winter League galas. As is the norm, all teams swim on the same night, so while the 'A' team were down in Salisbury, the 'B' team were just up the road in Tidworth.

A strong overall performance from the 'A' team earned a very creditable 3rd place on the night (out of 7). Todays special mention goes to Sarah Wilson who celebrated her 18th birthday from the day before with a storming last leg of the Girls Open backstroke relay , gaining several places to clinch victory.

For the 'B' team there was another strong peformance against strong opposition. Christian Noone made his first appearance for the club and certainly played his part. The Boy and Girl of the gala were Hannah Mortimer and James Brand (though not necessarily in that order). more

18th Nov '05 "President Peggy "

Many congratulations to Peggy on her inaugeration as Wiltshire ASA County president. Peggy took over the reigns on Saturday 11th Nov. This is a great honour for her and for Corsham, and is a fitting honour after so many years dedication to the sport. We look forward to a splendid year of Peggy rule.

"Independent Schools National Championships Finals "

18th Nov '05 "Points, Experience and Medals for Melissa and Elliot"

Melissa and Elliot went to Coventry for the Independent Schools National Championships and it was quite an event. Melissa swam in the 50 m under 12's in Butterfly and Backstroke. The standard was extremely high (especially in the London and North teams) and Melissa excelled with a 3rd in both and was presented with a bronze medals. She got to stand on a podium with the girls that came first and second - just like the Olympics but without the national anthem!!!

Elliot too performed really well. He came 4th in the boys under 11 50m breaststroke and he competed in the boys freestyle relay. Again the standard was incredibly high.

It was a great experience, a 50 m pool and 1000 spectator seats and 500 competitors. They both earned some good points for the South West team

7th Nov '05 "Melissa and Elliot off to Coventry"

Melissa Birkett and Elliot Berning both earned the right to represent the South West in the Independent National Schools Finals to be held at Coventry on the 19th Nov. The qualifiers were held at Exeter on the 15th Oct where Melissa won the 50m backstroke and Elliot the 50m breaststroke. Melissa posting a new PB of 40.69. Well done to both, and good luck for the finals

"Club Championships"

8th Oct '05 "Session 1"

The first session of the club championships saw some terrific racing. Especially encouraging were the performances from the younger age groups. To cap it off, two new championship records were set. Myles Hickman broke Oliver Turners' long standing 100m Breaststroke record (if you read this Oliver, Myles says he's really sorry), and a superb Sam Ross took the u/9 25m freestyle record in fine style.

22nd Oct '05 "Session 2"

Congratulations to all the swimmers on another evening of keen competition and good performances. Performance of the evening (and perhaps the championships) must go to Melissa Birkett with a storming 15.43s in the u/11 25m f/s. A new club and championship record.

1st Oct '05 "OXFORD JUNIOR OPEN"

Valuable experience was gained by several of the younger members, as a Corsham team aquited themselves well at the Oxford junior Open. There were also medals, with Jamie Butler and Alex Jones gaining multiple top 3 finishes. Special mention must go to Nick parks, who swam superbly all day only to be denied by faulty timers, and a slight lapse in entry card management. Well done everyone. Results

Team: Leo & Oscar Matcham, Nick and Huw Parks, Jamie and Kyle Butler, Hayley and Kelly Orner, Hannah Pinsent, Lily Benton, Alex Jones

24th Sept '05 "CORSHAM 'B' CLINCH PROMOTION WITH SUPERB WIN"

Saturday's final round of the Division 2 Wiltshire Summer League left just one point separating the top three teams. Corsham and Swindon Dolphins tied for first place, just pipping Bradford on Avon, who had lead for most of the evening. Salisbury, who had made up some lost ground in Round three, finished fourth. The final Division 2 placings saw Swindon Dolphins as comfortable winners, with Bradford on Avon 2nd, Corsham 3rd and Salisbury 4th. 10th July '05 "Corsham Sprints"

Congratulations to everybody who competed in the Club Sprints, especially those competing for the first time. It was a great success. There were a great many Personal Bests and Club Records as well as bucket loads of enthusiasm. All in great spirit. The awards ceremony pictures can be found at the following link: Sprint '05 Presentation Photos.

On Saturday 9th July the A-Team competed in the 3rd round of the summer league, division 2 at Salisbury. The Gala saw the home team rally to claw back some of their deficit. The final round at Corsham in September promises to be a very tense and exciting gala, but if we're at our best we will come through.
